A Flying Bullet

A guy, named Mr Wadia (who is a well known industrialist in India), managed to fly from Mumbai to Dubai today with a gun and 30 live bullets in his luggage. It was only discovered when he tried to get through security after arriving at Dubai. He was promptly arrested - although was released later, as he said it was his servant who packed the bag and he himself was unaware of the gun and bullets being there. It goes to show again the inefficiencies of Air India - although, in an interesting twist, it turns out he is actually the Chairman of rival airline, Go Air - so could it have been a huge publicity stunt?

One of the main problems and reasons for the security breach is that for important, influential and powerful Indians - and no-one disputes that Mr Wadia falls into that category - security checks at airports are cursory.

I must thank this very rich person for exposing such a loop hole in overseas third world airlines. I'm a pilot and wondered when this dirty little secret would be exposed. Now the new weapon of mass distruction will be the private jet. And not just a small Lear Jet I'm talking about the reused airliner like old Boeing 727's or now the new Boeing Business Jet 737. Even old Gulf Streams can carry a very substantial load of fuel it will only be time when such a person will purchase or lease such a jet. Getting a flight crew for such a aircraft is easy learning to fly such a bird is not that difficult if your never going to learn to land. If I wanted to change leadership of a country other than western nations than a used corporate jet or a old airliner is just the flying bomb I would need. Third world nations today are at greater risk to such a weapon than ever before. Carrying a weapon on a aircraft that you lease or own are the keys to the kingdom.
